The energy supply and cooling has to be delivered by the ocean. The patent request became public at the end of August.

Google’s datacenter has to come 5-10 kilometers in the sea. This spectacular idea brings together diverse ideas ad investments like underwater sea cables necessary for data transfer and datacenters in sea containers.

The energy will be created by wind turbines of Pelamis-systems. These ‘Pelamis Wave energy Converters’ are connected pipes that are laying partly in the water. Google would like to use forty Pelamis units to create the necessary 40 megawatt of energy.

Each datacenter consist of twelve or more computer container. It is not necessary to have the datacenters in the sea. In Google patent request is also an option for a datacenter on shore which is fed and cooled by the sea.
