Almost 80% of the Dutch shrimp fishing boats are staying in the harbor. The captains are not sailing for almost two weeks now because of the low prices they are receiving for their catch.

The price for one kilogram of shrimp dropped 80%. Last year the shrimp fishers were able to receive 10 euro for 1 kg of shrimp. This year they receive only 2 euro for 1 kg of shrimp.

Chairman Johan Nooitgedacht of the Dutch Fishing Federation does not know exactly why the prices are soo low. It looks the overall shrimp sale is decreasing and there is an overcapacity of North Sea shrimp he stated.

If the prices stay this low, it looks like that also next week the captains are keeping their boats safely in the harbors.
